Caring for Kid

When it comes to health care, kids aren’t just little adults.

With vastly different needs, it takes specialized pediatric resources to provide kids with the best care. In North County, the accessibility and availability of quality pediatrics continues to grow through private and public investment.

Three renowned health care organizations are meeting the needs of families and children right in our community, with their vast expertise, advanced treatments and resources.

“Enhancing the health and care of the communities in which we live and work is a core part of our mission and values at SSM Health. This development signifies our commitment.”

Steve Burghart, President, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital

In Spring 2019, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon opened the first pediatric specialty services center in North County. The nearly $10 million, 15,000 square foot facility in Ferguson houses SSM Health Medical Group Pediatrics in addition to bringing much needed specialties like neurology and orthopedics.

For pediatric emergency care, Christian Hospital’s Northwest HealthCare emergency room (ER) is now fully staffed 24/7 by Washington University pediatricians from St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Night or day, their pediatric team is ready to provide the highest level of compassionate, specialized care for emergencies from asthma to broken bones.

“We are very pleased to have our colleagues from Washington University and St. Louis Children’s Hospital make access to world-class care more convenient for babies and children — and their families — in our North County community.”

A new practice, Mercy Clinic Pediatrics – North County, recently opened in Hazelwood, staffed with four pediatricians and two pediatric nurse practitioners. Together, they’re focused on making every child feel special and valued while treating them when they’re sick or helping to keep them well.

“I’m most excited about the fact that we are able to help a lot of kids who may not be able to get health care other places. We want to make sure all kids in North County have access to the best health care.”

The good these organizations are doing extends beyond traditional health care. From hosting local safety events like bike helmet fittings to leading fitness education initiatives and partnering with local chambers and non-profits, they’re expanding their reach in the community, making more kids in North County healthier and happier.
